Boral have a proud history of supporting service men and women. Our connection to the defence community goes back to the end of World War II when we welcomed returning Navy personnel to jobs at our bitumen plant in Matraville, Sydney. This tradition of support continues today, as we acknowledge the sacrifices of all Boral colleagues past and present who have served in the armed forces.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors at our Boral Materials Technical Services Laboratory in Sydney. It was an insightful visit where we showcased our state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge research and development capabilities.

As ANZAC Day approaches, we sat down with Boral driver Michael Anderson to hear his story. It is a journey shaped by service, safety, and over four decades on the road.

As part of the ConnectSydney joint venture between Boral, Service Stream, and Johnson Controls, we’re leading a multi-stage restoration project to ensure the iconic Galston Timber Bridge remains part of the community for generations to come. The works focus on strengthening the 130 year-old structure while respecting its historical significance and natural environment.

Each year, our Berrima Cement Works site undergoes an intensive annual shutdown. A critical operation that ensures the plant runs efficiently, safely, and reliably for the year ahead. This complex event involves months of planning, precise execution, and the combined efforts of hundreds of people from diverse teams at Berrima and across the business. 

Meet Amanda Urban, Asphalt’s Logistics and Allocations Manager for Queensland and Western Australia, and the recipient of the CEO STAAR Award in 2024. Amanda's career began in the mining industry in Western Australia. When her family relocated to Brisbane, she transitioned into bitumen allocation before joining Boral in 2020 as the Bitumen Transport Supervisor. Since then, Amanda has steadily grown her career at Boral, receiving industry recognition as an Emerging Leader in 2022.

Boral’s Stab Plant at Widemere Recycling blends recycled road bases with cement and has helped pave the way for Western Sydney – from supply to major motorway construction projects, to large scale factory builds and even more recently as a major supplier to the new Western Sydney Airport. Recently, the Stab Plant received a great upgrade, benefiting our customers, with a brand-new access road ensuring our customers have a comfortable, safe and seamless experience when picking up material from the Stab Plant. The upgrade also reduces product losses and has supported our site operations licence to expand to 24/7. 

It was great to have over 40 officers from the Queensland Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation at our Tichum and Ormeau Quarries last month as part of the practical element of the Department’s Erosion and Sediment Control Training.  

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project, and DMG are currently using Boral's lower carbon concrete ENVISIA® to complete station boxes on the Western Sydney Airport line. 

The Montrose Family Open Day was a fantastic opportunity to bring employees, their families, and our local community together for a day of fun, learning, and connection. More than just an event, the day highlighted the long-standing history of our Montrose Quarry while giving our community an inside look at our operations and the important role we play in the region. Local resident Tim Rolfe, who attended with his son Reggi, shared his experience, “It was great, and Reggi had an awesome time! He still talks about it.”
