Boral’s Bacchus Marsh Quarry is located approximately 6 kilometres north of Bacchus Marsh township, 10 kilometres north-west of Melton and 50 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. The 195-hectare site began operating in the early 1970s under Western Washed Sands and Stone Pty Ltd and was acquired by Boral in 1987. Today, Bacchus Marsh is a strategic site for Boral, supplying fine aggregates for concrete, masonry and packing sand across the Melbourne region.

The quarry team, led by Cain Mowbray, includes 44 permanent staff, 15 truck drivers and 10 contractors. Many live locally, making Bacchus Marsh a strong contributor to regional employment. The workforce is diverse, ranging in age from 18 to 64, with years of service spanning from 6 months to 42 years. This depth of experience and local knowledge helps ensure safe, efficient operations and a strong connection to the surrounding community.

To meet growing demand and support major infrastructure projects, the site underwent a $5 million wash plant refurbishment. This investment increased production capacity and improved the site’s ability to process variable raw feed, ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality sand. The upgrade also allowed the site to reduce production hours while expanding its customer base, including projects in Melbourne’s CBD and surrounding areas.

Bacchus Marsh Quarry continues to play a vital role in supporting Victoria’s infrastructure pipeline. With a dedicated team and a focus on continuous improvement, the site is well positioned to meet the needs of Boral’s customers and contribute to the state’s future growth.
