Partnership supporting employment pathways on Country

Creating opportunities on Country starts with strong partnerships.

At Dundowran Quarry in Queensland, Boral’s relationship with the Butchulla Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (BNTAC) is helping to create meaningful employment pathways for Butchulla people, grounded in mutual respect, cultural heritage protection and shared goals.

This partnership has been developed over several years and reflects a commitment to working together to support long-term outcomes for community and Country.

Henry’s journey

One of the first outcomes of this partnership has been the employment of Henry Miller, a proud Butchulla young man, who joined Boral as a Plant Operator at Dundowran Quarry in November 2025.

"I enjoy learning new things because every day is different," said Henry. "I've been learning to drive dump trucks and the water cart, and I'm excited to learn the loader next."

For Henry, the experience so far has been shaped by the team environment and a strong focus on safety.

"Everyone is really welcoming and willing to help. We've got a great team, and Boral is focused on safety, which is important. I'm learning new skills and safety procedures all the time."

Building skills and confidence

Henry’s journey highlights the value of practical, on-the-job experience in building skills, confidence and career opportunities.

When asked what advice he would give others, his message is simple:

"Try new things, don't give up and be open to opportunities."

Supporting long-term pathways

As Dundowran Quarry approaches the end of its operational life, Boral is committed to supporting Henry’s ongoing development through future opportunities across its quarry, concrete and asphalt operations.

Looking ahead, Boral and BNTAC are also exploring initiatives that support both employment and rehabilitation on Country, including the potential development of a community nursery.

Working together for lasting outcomes

Henry’s story reflects what can be achieved through partnership and shared commitment.

By continuing to work together, there is an opportunity to create lasting outcomes that support employment, strengthen connections to Country and benefit communities now and into the future.
