Supporting sustainable construction in Australia

Boral’s Circular Materials Solution (CMS) is an end‑to‑end approach to a managing construction and demolition waste, including materials generated during building, excavation and demolition activities. This type of waste, often referred to as C&D waste, can be diverted from landfill and returned to site as recycled and low carbon construction materials.

By combining early project engagement with Boral’s national network of recycling and laboratory facilities, CMS supports more efficient material flows, improved compliance reporting and better commercial and sustainability outcomes across the construction lifecycle.

Why choose Boral’s Circular Materials Solution

CMS helps developers, builders and infrastructure contractors take a practical and commercially viable approach to circular economy construction, by integrating waste management and material supply into a single, coordinated solution.

Key benefits include:

  • Reduced waste sent to landfill through waste diversion and recycling
  • Lower disposal and transportation costs through local processing
  • Access to low carbon construction materials and recycled alternatives
  • Improved visibility of materials flow, recycling rates and compliance reporting
  • One integrated partner across demolition, excavation and construction phases

How the Circular Materials Solution works

1. Demolition and excavation waste diversion

During the design and pre‑construction phases, Boral works with project teams to identify suitable demolition and excavation materials. These materials are separated on site and diverted away from landfill as part of a planned C&D waste management approach.

2. Recycling and processing

Waste materials are transported to a local Boral recycling facility, where they are sorted, processed, washed and blended as required. This supports demolition waste recycling in Australia and reduces reliance on virgin raw materials.

3. Reintroduction as construction materials

Recycled and reclaimed materials are reintroduced back into the construction process as fit‑for‑purpose products, including recycled aggregates and low carbon construction materials, delivered in line with project specifications.

Where applicable, oversupplied concrete can also be returned for recycling as part of Boral’s established supply, pump and place process.

Waste materials managed through CMS

Boral’s Circular Materials Solution manages a wide range of construction and demolition waste materials, including:

  • Concrete
  • Brick
  • Reclaimed asphalt
  • Excavated sand
  • Sandstone
  • Tunnel spoil
  • PASS materials

These materials are processed for reuse in construction applications, supporting waste diversion in Australia and circular supply chains.

Technical and project support

Boral’s technical experts and account managers work closely with customers to support CMS delivery across all project stages. This includes:

  • Identifying opportunities to redirect suitable waste materials away from landfill
  • Assessing options to incorporate recycled and low carbon construction materials
  • Supporting project efficiencies and material planning
  • Providing reporting on recycling rates, material flows and carbon content to support sustainability targets and certifications
