Recently, we welcomed residents of Kirkbrae Retirement Village and members of the local Men's and Ladies Shed to our Montrose Quarry for a special day out.

Local resident John Wilson had always been curious about the quarry site, as he used to own a local cafe near Montrose Quarry where he would give Boral drivers free cups of tea and coffee on cold mornings. He reached out to our team to see if the aged care residents could come to see the quarry first-hand.

The site team worked hard prior to the tour date to level the ground and ensure the walkways were as flat and safe as possible for our elderly visitors.

Our highly skilled Drill and Blast team put on a spectacular show our visitors will never forget, with a chance to see how we extract rock from our quarry.

Another local resident joining the tour, 94-year-old Bob, remembers working as a local concrete agitator driver and said he can't believe how much the safety standards have changed over the years. Luckily Bob agrees they had to change, and we have to keep improving.

The tour group loved our site history room that was created by Keely Preston and Adam Deluca, with photos and historical items dating back to the 1950s.

They said the Montrose Quarry seemed like a lovely small family, and they were so happy to meet some of our employees.

"In all my 26 years working for Boral, this was the most enriching and rewarding day whilst working with our great team at Montrose Quarry," said Melinda Farell, Community Engagement Specialist at Boral.

Big thank you to Adam Deluca, Jake Van Bergeijk, Andrew White, Brendon Miton, Reinhard Kascha, Melinda and Brad for their efforts to create an unforgettable day for our local community members.
