A big thank you to our Deer Park Quarry team in Victoria who recently showed support to one of their local community groups. The Deer Park site helped fund accommodation costs for the 2025 VACSAL (Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association), Basketball Classic Tournament in Mildura.
Gary Galway proud Wurundjeri man, made contact with the site to explain that his community group needed some help to fund their accommodation to attend the tournament, which was a 4-hour drive away. With support from Boral, the youth team were able to participate in an event that was previously beyond their reach.
Gary has a love and passion for the sport and the benefits it brings to his community as it creates positive relationships, in this instance, a group of indigenous children, all under 18. This opportunity provides them with some essential life skills, such as, team building, leadership, communication, and celebrating success together all whilst learning from failures.
Sport always plays a huge role in their daily lives and is a platform for children to be in a culturally safe space and to keep active. It helps maintain relationships, as these tournaments act as modern-day ceremony for our community to come together for a positive and inclusive event.
The result of the tournament? All teams made finals but didn’t quite make it to the Grand final. Most importantly, they all had an amazing time and had the opportunity to make some memories. Great work Boral Quarries Deer Park for jumping at the opportunity to support their community!
