Ground breaking water harvesting agreement between Boral, DEXUS and Cumberland Country Golf Club
Boral, DEXUS and Cumberland Country Golf Club, in Sydney's south-west, today signed a ground breaking agreement that will result in the provision of harvested stormwater and ground water from the industrial/commercial development projects on the site of the former Prospect Quarry
The initiative will provide water for irrigation of the golf course, to reduce potable water consumption, recycle groundwater and reduce the impact of stormwater flow. En route to the golf course water will also be available for the irrigation of selected public parks and Greystanes Public School grounds.
The signing of the agreement between Boral, DEXUS and Cumberland Country Golf Club followed an extensive period of investigation, collaboration and negotiation to provide an outcome that has benefits for all parties and the greater community.
The project involves the collection and pumping annually of approximately 150 megalitres of stormwater and ground water from Boral and DEXUS Property Group's respective commercial and industrial developments - which total 70 ha - at Greystanes through a harvest dam system and then through a 4km pipeline to the Cumberland Golf Course.
"The project will provide great benefits to the Cumberland Country Golf Club and to the local community, and is consistent with Boral's commitment to sustainability," Boral's General Manager, Property Development, Paul Dalton said.
Mr Dalton said Boral has had a long relationship with the club providing access to surplus ground and stormwater from the site during peak times of drought, but the water had to then be delivered to the club by tankers, which was expensive.
"Boral recognises the need to manage our valuable water resources in an environmentally friendly manner in all of our operations and we are pleased to deliver, in partnership with DEXUS, such a positive solution in conjunction with the Golf Club", he added.
The new arrangements were successfully developed through collaboration between the Department of Planning, Holroyd City Council, Sydney Water, Department of Water and Energy, TAFE NSW and Greystanes Public School.
This project is supported by the NSW Government Water Savings Fund and the Australian Government community water grants, as well as contributions from Cumberland Country Golf Club members.
Boral's Greystanes Estate project involves the development of its former quarry site after 120 years of operation and will deliver in total 70ha of prime industrial land, commercial business park and retail facilities to the precinct.
