When building a large home with an expansive roofline, the choice of roof tile is critical. This is something that award winning architect and builder Michael Milosevic of Felton Constructions is well aware of. When designing this majestic home at Horsley Park, with separate garage and gazebo, requiring 1138 square metres of roof tiles, Boral’s Australian made Shingle™ Eclipse roof tile was an obvious choice.
Both the builder/architect and the owners of the home were after two main features in their roof tile – a tile that would fit the classic look of the design and one that would maintain its colour over time.
The Boral Shingle™ Eclipse roof tile met the brief perfectly. The contemporary tile design offers a streamlined look that does not overshadow the rest of the home. It is well suited to the classic clean lines of the design created by key features, like the moulding around the windows and under the eaves. It also ties in well with its more modern elements at the rear of the home.
The rounded bullnose finish on the tile was particularly attractive to the owners of the home, who didn’t want a completely flat tile, but rather a tile with some character to it. In addition, the Accent Ridge™, a low-line ridging system designed to enhance the streamlined look of the tiles, also assisted in creating a roofline that would not overpower the architectural beauty of the home.
The colour choice of Eclipse with a matt finish also worked well with the greys and whites chosen for the render and windows of the home. Boral’s Designer Ceramic Tiles are available in 8 modern tones with a matt or satin finish, so every project can be designed with a tile that meets individual aesthetic requirements.
Kiln fired at 1100°C to give a beautiful permanent colour finish, the Boral Shingle™ roof tile also met the durability requirement that the client was after. The tile’s durability against rust or corrosion ensures it is low maintenance. In addition, the tile is frost resistant so the client, who is in an area prone to frost, will not have to worry about the effect of the cold weather on the tile during winter. With Boral’s 60 year warranty on the tile, the owners have added peace of mind so that they can continue enjoying their home well into the future.
Whilst Boral’s roof tiles can be fitted by any roof tiler, for this project Mr Milosevic and the client made the decision to have them supplied and installed by Boral Roofing and Masonry. Both parties were extremely pleased with the quality and service rendered.
With 37 years experience in the building industry, Felton Constructions rely on quality products to bring their visions to life. The Boral Shingle™ tiles are definitely a product that they will continue to use and recommend. “The client and our company were very happy with the finished look, and these tiles complimented our design and the look we wanted to achieve”.
