Victorian designer wins bronze for achievable garden

Emerging garden designer Peta Donaldson, from Mount Martha in Victoria, received the bronze medal for her Achievable Garden design at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) 2012.

One of 14 designs in the Achievable Garden division, Donaldson wanted to maximise the use of the space provided (5 x 3 metres) using contrasting materials such as stone, timber and foliage. "Through the use of different materials I wanted to highlight texture, shape and most importantly colour in the garden design," said Donaldson, who runs her own landscape design business, Natural Design. "I also wanted to incorporate seasonal change, to give the garden personality, and to create a design that encouraged use of the garden both day and night."

To achieve her objectives, Donaldson created a curved bench utilising new Cultured Stone cladding from Boral, encircling a fire pit.

"Boral Cultured Stone is realistic in shape, texture and colour. It made the stone seat the absolute hero of the garden," commented Donaldson. "I did a lot of research on stone cladding and in my opinion Boral's offering is the most realistic on the market.

"This was my first time at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show and I am absolutely thrilled to win a bronze medal."
