Community open day celebrates the future of a key NSW quarry site

Boral’s Seaham Quarry recently welcomed staff, families and industry partners on site for a community open day, marking an important milestone for one of New South Wales’ key quarry operations.

The event, hosted by the Seaham team, offered a behind-the-scenes look at quarry operations, with equipment displays, activities and opportunities for visitors to connect with the people and processes that keep the site running.

From heavy mobile equipment displays through to family-friendly activities, including a jumping castle, the day brought together employees, partners and the wider community to celebrate the site and its future.

Celebrating long-term future at Seaham

The open day follows the recent approval from the NSW Government for Seaham Quarry to continue operating for a further 30 years.

With approximately 30 million tonnes of hard rock reserves still available, the approval secures the quarry’s long-term role in supplying construction materials across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and Port Stephens.

Supporting regional supply and local industry

Seaham Quarry plays an important role in supporting residential, commercial and infrastructure projects across the region, and its continued operation provides stability for local contractors, suppliers and transport partners who rely on the site.

The open day was also an opportunity to recognise these relationships, with industry partners including Orica and Komatsu supporting the event and showcasing equipment used in daily operations.

Connecting people with the operation

Events like this provide a valuable opportunity to bring people onto site, building understanding of quarry operations and strengthening the connection between the site, its workforce and the local community.

With its future secured, Seaham Quarry remains an important part of Boral’s New South Wales network, continuing to supply essential materials that support growth and development across the region.
