Mike Kane, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director
Age 61
Mike was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director in October 2012. Previously President of Boral USA, Mike joined Boral in February 2010. He has extensive experience in the building and construction industry including 24 years in senior executive roles with US Gypsum, Pioneer / Hanson Building Materials, Johns-Manville Corp and Holcim. Mike's experience spans a broad range of geographies across America, Europe and the Asia Pacific, and his portfolio of responsibilities have included cement, aggregate, concrete, plasterboard, bricks and roof tile businesses. Prior to joining Boral, Mike was CEO and Board Member of Calstar Products Inc, a Silicon Valley Clean Technology start-up reinventing exterior building materials for sustainable construction. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Southern Illinois University, a Juris Doctorate from DePaul University’s School of Law in Illinois, and a Masters in Science from Creighton University, School of Law in Nebraska.
Joseph Goss, Divisional Managing Director, Boral Construction Materials & Cement

Joe joins Boral from Lafarge North America, Inc where he spent 10 years working in a number of executive roles, including President US Southeast Cement Business, President US East Cement Business and Business Development Consultant US & East Canada. Between 1986 and 2002 Joe worked with Schlumberger NV, the world’s leading oilfield services company, where he held a number of manufacturing, sales, marketing and product development roles across Europe, the USA and Australasia.
Joe holds a PhD and a Masters of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science (Metallurgical Engineering) from the University of Wisconsin.
Al Borm, President Boral Industries Inc
Age 65
Al Borm was appointed President Boral USA in October 2012. Prior to this appointment, Mr Borm was President Boral Roofing in the USA and joined Boral in this role in July 2010. Mr Borm has extensive experience in the building products industry including logistics, marketing, sales, business development and general management roles with US Gypsum, Hanson Building Products America and Oldcastle APG, a subsidiary of CRH. Al has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, as well as an MBA from DePaul University.
Frederic de Rougemont, Divisional Managing Director, Boral Gypsum
Age 53
Frederic was appointed Divisional Managing Director of Boral Gypsum in October 2012 when the Asian and Australian plasterboard businesses were combined. Prior to this Frederic was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Boral Gypsum Asia in December 2011 following Boral's acquisition of Lafarge's interest in Lafarge Boral Gypsum Asia (LBGA). He was previously Chief Executive Officer of LBGA from 2009-2011. Prior to this, Frederic held a number of senior roles in his 22 year career with Lafarge, including managing the Cement Ready Mix and Aggregates business in South Africa and the Cement business in South Korea. He was also responsible for Research & Development for the Lafarge Group. Prior to joining Lafarge he was a scientific researcher for the French National Research Centre and a post-doctorate researcher with IBM Research Labs in the USA. He holds a PhD in Physical Sciences from University of Orsay.
Darren Schulz, Executive General Manager, Boral Building Products
Age 41
Darren was appointed Executive General Manager, Boral Building Products on 1 February 2013, immediately prior to which he was co-managing Boral's overhead cost review in Australia. Darren joined Boral in 2002 and has held a number of strategy, general and executive management positions in the Bricks, Distribution and Roofing businesses in the USA, Trinidad and Mexico.
Prior to joining Boral he held positions in accounting and taxation advisory roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers – then Coopers & Lybrand (1989-1995) and Optus Communications Limited (1995-1998); and as Special Counsel at Minter Ellison, Lawyers (1998-2000). Darren has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) Degree from University of Technology, Sydney and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (2000-2002).
Ross Batstone, Chairman, Boral Gypsum Asia
Age 64
Ross was Boral’s Chief Executive Officer from May to September 2012 and is the Chairman of Boral Gypsum Asia and a Consultant Advisor to Boral’s Board. His previous roles were: Divisional Managing Director, Boral Building Products (2010-2012); Executive General Manager Plasterboard (2000-2010); Divisional General Manager, Plasterboard Australia (1996-2000). Prior to this he was Boral's Divisional General Manager, Roofing from 1991-1995, Chief Executive Montoro Resources Ltd from 1988-1990 and held various roles at Shell Company of Australia from 1970-1987. He holds chemical engineering and commerce degrees from the University of Queensland.
Matt Coren, Group Strategy and M&A Director
Age 42
Matt joined Boral as Group Strategy and M&A Director in December 2010 following a 15 year career in investment banking. In his previous roles with global investment banks, Matt focussed on advising clients in industrial sectors on strategy, M&A and capital markets transactions. Matt holds honours degrees in commerce and law from the University of Queensland.
Kylie FitzGerald, Group Communications and Investor Relations Manager
Age 42
Kylie first joined Boral in 1995 and was appointed General Manager Corporate Affairs and Investor Relations in 2001, a role she continued in until August 2010. In January 2011, Kylie joined The GPT Group as Group Communications Manager, before returning to Boral in July 2012 to again lead Boral’s Corporate Affairs and Investor Relations division. With an early career in production management, Kylie holds an honours degree in Ceramic Engineering from the University of NSW and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
Robert Gates, Chief Administrative Officer
Age 45
Robert was appointed Chief Administrative Officer on 1 February 2013. Prior to this he was Vice President, Performance Management which involved co-managing Boral’s overhead cost review in Australia. Robert’s other roles in Boral have included Chief Information Officer for Boral and Vice President Lean Manufacturing in the US operations.
Prior to Boral, Robert worked at McKinsey & Company as an Operations Expert. Robert holds a Masters of Science (Business Administration) from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) from Virginia Military Institute.
Andrew Poulter, Chief Financial Officer
Age 57
Andrew was appointed Chief Financial Officer in May 2010 following seven years with Adelaide Brighton. He has previously held senior finance roles with world leading construction materials and building products firms including Lafarge and Blue Circle Cement in the UK and the USA. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds an Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering and Fuel Technology.
Margaret Taylor, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary
Age 52
Margaret was appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary of Boral Limited in November 2008. Prior to joining Boral, Margaret was Regional Counsel Australia/Asia with BHP Billiton, and prior to that she was a partner with law firm Minter Ellison for many years, specialising in corporate and securities law. Margaret holds law and arts degrees from the University of Queensland and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries.
