Important application guidance

  • Premium Clay is a naturally occurring material, and colour may vary between batches. All clay materials should be checked prior to use in colour‑sensitive applications.
  • Clay should not be used as a substitute for lime.
  • With all clay materials, trials should be conducted on mix designs prior to use to confirm suitability for the intended application.
  • As a guide, use the minimum amount required to achieve the desired workability and finish.
  • Excessive clay or fine silt content in mortars and renders may negatively affect strength, shrinkage and durability.
  • Boral does not specify mix designs when using clay, as performance is dependent on sand type and other variables.

For masonry applications, mortars should be tested for compliance with AS 3700 – Masonry Structures, where applicable.
