Setting time and handling guidance

Quick Set Concrete Mix attains initial set in no more than 15 minutes under normal conditions and should be placed immediately after mixing.

Water temperature has a direct impact on setting time:

  • Warmer water will accelerate setting
  • Colder water can be used to slow the setting process, which may be helpful in hot conditions

After initial set, allow at least two hours before applying any load.

Important use considerations

  • Water content is critical — do not over‑water
  • Mix and place promptly due to reduced working time
  • Not recommended for use with aluminium substrates, as corrosion may occur
  • Consult the aluminium manufacturer before use near aluminium components
  • Always follow the product data sheet and safety instructions

Frequently asked questions about Quick Set Concrete

Blue Circle® Quick Set Concrete Mix typically begins to set in around 15 minutes under normal conditions. Because the setting time is fast, the mix should be placed immediately after mixing.

Quick set concrete hardens much faster than standard concrete. Once initial set has occurred, allow a minimum of two hours before applying light loads.
Final strength continues to develop over time, and adequate curing should be provided in line with product guidance and application needs.

Yes. Quick Set Concrete Mix can be mixed, placed and finished like standard concrete, but with a much shorter working time. Preparation should be completed before mixing.

Using colder water can help slow the setting process slightly, which may be useful in warmer conditions. Do not exceed recommended water quantities.

Quick set concrete is suited to applications where:

  • posts or fixtures need to be secured quickly
  • access is required shortly after placement
  • downtime must be minimised

For larger slabs or jobs requiring extended working time, a standard concrete mix may be more appropriate.
