Boral Recycling has taken another step forward in supporting a more circular construction supply chain, with the introduction of its first heavy vehicle servicing Melbourne’s metropolitan concrete network.
Since commencing operations in June 2025, a dedicated skip bin truck has been collecting returned concrete and surplus material from seven metropolitan concrete plants, including sites supplying major infrastructure projects such as North East Link. The service supports plants across locations including Bulleen, West Melbourne and Nunawading.
Purpose‑designed concrete skip bins are positioned directly onsite at batch plants, allowing returned and excess material to be collected efficiently at the source. This reduces handling and transfer time for concrete agitators, helping improve turnaround times and support more responsive service for customers.
The collected material is delivered directly to Boral Recycling operations, where it provides a high‑quality, contaminant‑free feedstock for processing into recycled aggregates. These materials are then reused within the construction supply chain, reducing waste sent to landfill and lowering demand for virgin raw materials.
In just over four months of operation, the Victorian metropolitan skip bin service has collected more than 4,500 tonnes of material across more than 390 loads, demonstrating the scale and impact of the initiative.
The rollout reflects strong collaboration between Boral Recycling and Concrete Operations teams in Victoria, with plans already underway to expand the service across more sites and into other parts of the business where suitable.
By keeping valuable materials in use for longer, Boral continues to invest in practical solutions that support resource efficiency, reduce waste and strengthen circular economy outcomes across its operations.
