At Boral, we know that understanding each other’s work is key to collaboration. Recently, Queensland teams have been stepping out of their usual environments to experience different roles, locations and perspectives—strengthening connections along the way.
From Office to Plant: Finance Administration Goes Behind the Scenes
The Finance Administration team swapped desks for hi-vis vests during a visit to our Murarrie and Eagle Farm concrete plants. Guided by Andrew McLay and Jason Baker, they observed everything from batch hut operations to raw material handling and truck loading.
Seeing the process firsthand gave the team valuable insight into how their work connects with operational activities like docketing, carter processes and order reconciliation.
“We work closely with our operational teams every day, but getting out there to see the process in action really brings it to life,” said Robyn Burton, Administration Supervisor. “It’s helped us understand each other’s work better and how we can support each other more effectively.”
The day concluded with a collaborative workshop, reinforcing team bonds and sparking ideas for improved processes.
Quarry Meets Customer Service: A Day in the Office
The experience went both ways when Dave Wilks-Johnson from Ormeau Quarry spent a day with our Milton-based Quarries Customer Service Centre team. Hosted by Eamonn Mulcahy, the visit gave Dave a closer look at the commercial and administrative side of the business, opening the door to new ideas for smoother workflows.
“These visits aren’t just about learning,” said Eamonn. “They’re about building trust and relationships that make it easier to work together — which is exactly what our teamwork value is all about.”
Why It Matters
Whether it’s heading out to site or welcoming colleagues into an office, these exchanges give our people the chance to experience another role, team or location. The result? Stronger connections, better collaboration and a deeper understanding of how we work together to deliver for our customers.
