Every Australian relies on quarry products every single day. From the roads we drive on to the homes we live in, stone, sand and gravel are the essential raw materials that make modern life possible.

How Much Do We Use?

  • Per person: Each Australian requires around 8 tonnes of stone, sand and gravel every year to support the construction of roads, houses and vital infrastructure.
  • For a new home: Building an average house uses about 110 tonnes of construction aggregates and 53 cubic metres of concrete.
  • For our roads: Constructing just one kilometre of two-lane highway requires approximately 14,000 tonnes of aggregates — that’s about 400 truckloads.

Supporting Growth Across Australia

Quarry products are the backbone of infrastructure development. Every year, more than 200 million tonnes of aggregates are used to build homes, workplaces, public buildings and roads across the country.

Locally Sourced for Local Communities

Quarrying needs to happen close to where materials are used. This reduces transport costs, keeps building prices down and ensures local communities benefit from efficient supply chains.

Committed to Co-Existence

The quarry industry works hard to operate responsibly. We follow stringent planning and operating conditions to minimise impacts and maintain strong relationships with the communities we serve.

Why It Matters

Without quarry products, Australia simply couldn’t build the infrastructure we rely on every day. By sourcing materials locally and working closely with communities, we help create a sustainable future for generations to come.
