Boral recently welcomed elders from the Taribelang Bunda community to our Booyal Quarry for a site visit focused on building stronger relationships and mutual understanding.

The visit was led by Kelli Bodey, Booyal Quarry Manager, and Christian Lewis, Quarry Development Specialist. Together, they provided insights into Boral’s operations and outlined future expansion plans following approval of the new Development Application (DA). Discussions centred on cultural heritage, site safety, environmental sustainability, and Boral’s ongoing journey toward achieving net zero carbon emissions.

The Taribelang elders shared thoughtful questions and expressed appreciation for being included in conversations about Boral’s future plans. This engagement reflects our commitment to reconciliation and the importance of long-term partnerships with Traditional Owners.

The Taribelang Bunda are connected to an area of approximately 4,700 km² around Bundaberg, extending inland toward Walla and north to Baffle Creek. Their traditional lands also include parts of the lower Burrum River. Native title processes have formally recognised the Taribelang Bunda people as a distinct group alongside the Gooreng Gooreng, Gooreng, and Bailai peoples.

For those visiting the Bundaberg region, we encourage you to experience a Taribelang Bunda Cultural Tour with Bec and her team. Tours operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for up to ten participants. Learn more here.

Boral will continue to strengthen relationships with the Taribelang Bunda people through collaboration, expanding employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and creating opportunities for all employees to deepen their knowledge and respect for First Nations cultures and heritage.
