Boral is proud to showcase a major step forward in recycling and resource recovery with the launch of Boral Recycling’s first heavy vehicle (HV) asset servicing our metropolitan concrete network in Victoria.
Driving Circular Solutions in Melbourne
Since June, this specialised HV truck has been operating across seven Melbourne concrete plants, including sites supplying major infrastructure projects such as the North East Link. The truck collects returned concrete and dumped loads directly from batch plants using custom-designed bins positioned onsite for efficiency.
Why It Matters
This initiative goes beyond a simple logistics upgrade. It marks a significant step toward sustainability, delivering benefits for both customers and the environment.
- Faster Service – Reduces transfer and dumping times for agitator returns, enabling quicker response to customer needs
- Cleaner Recycling Streams – Delivers high-quality, contaminant-free material to our recycling operations for reuse as aggregates
- Significant Impact – In just four months, the HV truck has collected 4,500 tonnes of material across 390 loads, turning waste into valuable resources
Building a National Circular Economy
This Victorian rollout builds on the success of similar initiatives in Sydney, where branded skip bins at metro plants have been diverting wet concrete returns to recycling centres since early 2024. These efforts support Boral’s Circular Materials Solution program, which transforms concrete waste into road bases and aggregates.
What’s Next
We are planning to expand this service to additional sites in Victoria and exploring similar solutions for other parts of our business. Every step brings us closer to a truly circular economy where materials are reused, waste is minimised and sustainability is embedded in everything we do.
We celebrate the progress made and look forward to continuing the journey. Together, we can keep the circular economy rolling.
