Delivering the right mix, reliable quality and service for the job sometimes means finding new ways to get it done.
That was the case when we were asked to supply concrete for a pool, sauna, and pump house on Queensland’s beautiful K’gari (formerly known as Fraser Island), with the remote location requiring extra planning and a solid dose of teamwork.
A barge was required to get the agis to the island. But there were added complications, as the job demanded two trucks on day one and four on day two, with staggered discharge times stretching across several hours.
The public barge can only carry two trucks at a time, so a private barge was organised to get our trucks across from River Heads, the mainland departure site for ferries to the island.
“Working with Surya Koraganji from our Technical team, the team modified our standard pool spray mix. Each load had tailored dose rates of water reducer and retarder to suit the expected delay times, with the final truck not discharging until more than four hours after batching," said Duncan McKenna, Area Manager.
The Hervey Bay team, from batchers to drivers, kept everything running smoothly. With all nearby plants busy as well, careful planning and communication were essential to ensure the team could handle the work locally. Trucks didn’t return to the plant until nearly 6pm.
There were also environmental requirements to manage. With trucks spending long periods on the island, the customer set up a temporary washout point on site to safely manage over 1000 litres of wash water per truck in line with local regulations.
This job showed how our teams work together to deliver on our Customer Promise – over land and sea.
