When most of the city is still waking up, Michelle Schultze’s day is already well underway. As a resource scheduler within Boral’s NSW Asphalt business, her role plays a critical part in setting the pace for asphalt crews and ensuring each shift runs safely and smoothly.

With nearly two decades at Boral, Michelle brings calm, coordination and deep operational knowledge to a role where timing is everything. We spoke with her about what the job really involves, the satisfaction that comes from making the pieces fit, and why she has chosen to build a long‑term career with Boral.

What does a resource scheduler actually do?

Michelle laughs when people ask what her job involves.

“Most people assume I just book big trucks,” she says. “But it is much bigger than that. Every day, I am lining up crews, trucks, operators, equipment, load times and plant availability. If one thing changes, everything changes. My job is to make sure the right people and the right gear are in the right place at the right time so we can get the job done safely and smoothly.”

Her days start early because asphalt operations do too. Working closely with plant managers, project teams and site crews, Michelle helps coordinate daily plans that can adapt quickly when conditions change.

“The best part is when everything clicks, and the crews get out the gate without delay.”

What keeps you motivated in such a fast‑paced role?

For Michelle, the answer is simple.

“Easy. The people,” she says. “This job is full on, but the teams are solid, and we look out for each other. You build real relationships over time, and you feel part of something bigger than yourself.”

She also thrives on the variety and problem‑solving that comes with the role.

“No two days are the same. I like figuring things out on the fly and finding solutions that keep everyone moving.”

A family connection built on shared values

Michelle’s career at Boral is part of a broader family connection grounded in shared values such as hard work, reliability and commitment. Her brother Brian marked 30 years with Boral in 2024, and Michelle says those influences played a role in her own journey.

“It is pretty special,” she says. “You grow up around people who work hard and stay loyal. I never planned to be here this long, but it feels like home. When my brother said there was a job going back in 2007, I thought I would give it a try. Nineteen years later, I am still here.”

Supporting safe, reliable delivery

While Michelle’s work often happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt every day across NSW asphalt operations. By coordinating people, equipment and timing with care and precision, she helps enable safe starts, reliable delivery and smoother outcomes on site.

It is a role that demands focus, experience and trust, and one Michelle continues to approach with commitment, pride and quiet leadership.
