PROJECT DETAILS

The fourth piece of Brisbane City Council's TransApex plan, designed to reduce congestion on Brisbane's road network, the $1.5 billion Legacy Way is a 4.6km underground tunnel connecting the Western Freeway at Toowong (west) with the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove (inner north).

The two tunnel excavations were completed in record time – the first tunnel was completed five months ahead of schedule, the second tunnel was completed two months ahead of schedule. The majority of surface work was completed offline, with reduced impacts on motorists using two of Brisbane's busiest arterial roads.

The project was designed and constructed by Transcity, a consortium responsible for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Legacy Way, comprising BMD Constructions, Italian tunnelling company Ghella, and Spanish tunnelling and civil infrastructure company Acciona.
