Site status
Following a review of Boral Asphalt’s operating sites across the NSW and ACT network, a decision was taken in July 2020 to cease regular operations at the Lismore Asphalt site.
Customers will alternatively be supplied via Boral’s operations in Coffs Harbour and West Burleigh (QLD). For orders and other enquiries, please call 02 8801 2000 or send an online request.
As Boral retains ownership of the site, some activity may still be noticed from time to time at the premises. Enquiries about the Lismore property itself can be directed to 02 4964 3007 or via email.
In response to queries about the change in site status from local media, Boral issued the following explanatory statement:
Boral advised employees of the Lismore Asphalt Depot site on 7 July 2020 of changes to its operating status.
Workers were informed the site will in future only be utilised to meet customer requirements as necessary, with the changes to be fully implemented by 31 July.
The changes follow a review of the Boral Asphalt NSW/ACT portfolio as part of organisation-wide efforts to ensure continued delivery of services in a challenged, low demand market. Other parts of the Asphalt business across the state were similarly affected by new arrangements.
While potential redeployment opportunities were discussed with each individual, and outplacement and training support offered, the regrettable loss of jobs is an outcome of Boral having to make tough decisions in the interests of long term business sustainability. We wish our outgoing colleagues the very best for the future.
Boral will continue to supply its Northern Rivers customers, including the local Councils, from its operations at Coffs Harbour and the Gold Coast going forward.
About Boral Asphalt Lismore
The Boral Asphalt Lismore site was established during the 1950s and, over time, evolved into a central storage depot and sales centre for Boral and its predecessors.
With space to stage the heavy vehicles and equipment required for constructing asphalt surfaces, and the capacity to store quantities of bitumen for spray seal work, the site supported numerous key and local road and other major surfacing projects across the Northern Rivers region.
These included works on the Pacific and Bruxner Highways (notably the Alstonville bypass), and resurfacing of the runways at the Lismore Regional Airport.
In July 2020 following a general operational review, the decision was taken to cease regular operations at the site until further notice.
