Boral’s manufactured sand is produced from quarry materials under controlled conditions to deliver consistent grading and reliable performance in concrete and construction applications.

Manufactured sand can be used as a replacement for natural sand or blended with it to optimise concrete performance, providing a stable and specification-driven alternative where natural supply may be variable.

What is manufactured sand?

Manufactured sand is a fine aggregate produced by crushing and screening hard rock, typically with particle sizes less than 5 mm.

It is then processed to achieve a grading similar to natural sand, allowing it to be used in concrete and construction applications while delivering more consistent quality.

Unlike natural sand, which can vary by source, manufactured sand is produced under controlled conditions, resulting in uniform particle size distribution and predictable performance.

Why choose manufactured sand

Icon of a thumbs up

Consistent grading and quality

Produced under controlled conditions, manufactured sand delivers uniform particle size and reliable performance across batches, supporting consistent concrete results.

Improved concrete performance

The angular particle shape of manufactured sand can improve bonding with cement and overall concrete strength, particularly in structural applications.

When to use manufactured sand

Manufactured sand is suited to applications where consistency, supply reliability and controlled performance are critical.

Common uses include:

  • Concrete production as a replacement or blend with natural sand
  • Large-scale infrastructure and commercial projects
  • Projects requiring consistent mix performance over time
  • Applications where natural sand supply is limited or variable

Product options

Manufactured sand

Produced from quarry materials and processed to achieve grading similar to natural sand. Suitable for use in concrete production, either as a replacement or blended material.

Cement-treated manufactured sand

Manufactured sand with a specified cement content added during production to improve strength and workability in demanding applications.

This stabilised material is designed for use where additional structural performance is required.

Best for:

  • Stabilised materials and engineered fills
  • High-performance construction applications
  • Projects requiring enhanced strength and durability

How manufactured sand is used in concrete

Manufactured sand can be used:

  • As a direct replacement for natural sand
  • As a blended material to optimise grading and performance

Selection depends on:

  • project requirements
  • concrete specifications
  • desired performance outcomes

Bulk supply and delivery

Boral manufactured sand is available in bulk supply, supporting projects of all sizes with reliable delivery from a national quarry network.
