Boral Production Manager Frank Lourey has been selected as an Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA) Ambassador for 2026, recognising his commitment to mentoring, industry development and supporting the next generation of quarry professionals.
Based at Marulan South Limestone in New South Wales, Frank brings more than two decades of industry experience to the ambassador program, which connects established industry professionals and emerging leaders to help strengthen engagement across the quarrying sector. IQA Ambassadors play an important role in promoting professional development, encouraging industry participation and supporting future talent.
Frank joined Boral in 2022 as Product Manager at Peppertree Quarry, attracted by the company's Australian heritage and the opportunity to work at one of the country's major quarry operations. Since then, he has supported several quarry sites across New South Wales and recently commenced his role as Production Manager at Marulan South Limestone.
For Frank, one of the most rewarding aspects of a career in quarrying is helping others develop their skills and confidence.
"I like being a mentor. Why wouldn't I share the information I have learned over the years?" Frank said.
"Some people have the view that helping others will leave me out of a job, but that is the way it should be, paving the way for the next generation."
Frank has been involved with the IQA since 1999, initially joining as a way to connect with others in the industry. Over the years he has taken advantage of networking opportunities, education programs and site tours, and credits the organisation with supporting professional growth across the sector.
He believes effective mentoring starts with listening.
"To be a good mentor you really need to listen to people talk about their issue. They usually know the solution but just need to bounce ideas and get reassurance they are on the right track."
Frank is also passionate about the diversity of opportunities available within the construction materials industry.
"The possibilities are endless. You can pursue a career in quarry, concrete or environment, and you can move between sites."
His appointment as an IQA Ambassador highlights the important role experienced industry leaders play in supporting workforce development, sharing knowledge and fostering the skills needed to meet the future needs of Australia's construction and infrastructure sectors.
