Boral supplied approximately 16,800 m³ of concrete for the redevelopment of the historic David Jones site at 111–121 Castlereagh Street, part of the Westfield Sydney precinct. This high-profile mixed-use project involved complex heritage integration and high-rise construction in a constrained CBD environment.

To meet technical and sustainability requirements, Boral delivered 45 different mix designs, including:

  • 4,650 m³ of ENVISIA® and Envirocrete Plus® low-shrinkage, low-carbon mixes.
  • 5,600 m³ of high-spec, super-workable mixes, including 3,000 m³ of Aspire® high-modulus mixes.

These mixes were challenging to produce and supply, reflecting the complexity of high-rise projects.

"High-rise buildings are the most complex projects," said Vladimir Ilic, Senior Technical Specialist at Boral. "Every project usually starts with 10–15 mix designs, but as challenges arise, new designs are needed. For this project, we managed temperature control for large pad footings and overcame space constraints by pumping concrete from Pitt Street with a single feed truck."

Sustainability Highlights

  • 46% GP cement replacement across the project.
  • 67% manufactured sand replacing natural fine sand.
  • 92% recycled water replacing town water.
  • Achieved up to 3 Green Star points under GBCA guidelines.
