Now that the formwork has been constructed, and all other preparations are complete, have one final check on the quantity of concrete required.

Most important, check the THICKNESS. Remember that if your slab has an average thickness of 10% more than your original measurements you will need at least 10% more concrete to complete your job.

1 Remember that you can order Boral Concrete in small quantities and complete a job in stages.
   
2 Keep a hose handy to wash concrete off tools.
   
3 Don’t put concrete over downpipes or other pipes that you may need to get at for repair.
   
4 If a concrete pathway or drive slopes down, rain water could run where you don’t want it to. You can prevent this by making a dish drain across the driveway. Using the screed board flat as a guide, draw the side of a bottle across the concrete immediately after it has been levelled.
   
5 If you want to concrete over an area that’s subject to seepage, cover the ground with heavy gauge plastic sheeting before placing the concrete.
   
6 When placing concrete on a slope start at the bottom. This provides support for the mix all the way up the slope.
   
7 Some slabs may require a fall for water runoff. Slope should be a minimum of 25mm in 8 metres.
