Installation
2 Hour System (Stairwells) - Install 16mm Boral Firestop face layers vertically to both side of studs. Stagger joints on opposite sides of partition. Fasten 16mm Boral Firestop sheets on shaft side over 25mm Shaft Liner Panels fitted between CH Studs. Fasten to studs with 30mm Type S or Type D Bugle Head Gypsum Screws at 200mm maximum centres to vertical edges and 300mm maximum centres to field studs. Stagger screws 100mm to adjacent sheets. Do not fasten to floor or ceiling runners. Caulk perimeter with Cornice Adhesive or flexible fire resistant sealant as detailed.

4 Hour System - Install steel runners, steel studs and Liner Panels as described earlier. Install Liner Panels vertically to floor side of studs. Fasten to studs with 45mm Type S or Type D Bugle Head Gypsum Screws at 200mm maximum centres, commencing 150mm from top and bottom. Stagger screws 100mm to adjacent sheets. Caulk recesses formed by bevelled edges with Cornice Adhesive. Install 16mm Boral Firestop core layer vertically over liner Panels. Fasten to studs with 50mm Type S or Type D Bugle Head Gypsum Screws, staggered from screws in Liner Panels, at 200mm maximum centres to vertical edges and 300mm maximum centres to field studs. Stagger screws 100mm to adjacent sheets. Do not fasten to floor or ceiling runners.

Install Face Recessed Furring horizontally over Firestop core layer at floor and ceiling, and at 600mm maximum centres vertically. Fasten top channel to studs with 60mm Type S Pan Head Screws at 300mm maximum centres. Fasten other channels to studs with same screws at 600mm maximum centres.

Install 16mm Boral Firestop base layer vertically over Furring Channels with vertical joints staggered 600mm from joints in core layer. Fasten to Furring Channels with 30mm Type S or Type D Bugle Head Gypsum Screws, 25mm from vertical edges and at 300mm maximum centres throughout.

Caulk perimeter with Cornice Adhesive or flexible fire resistant sealant as detailed. Install 16mm Boral firestop face layer vertically over base layer with joints staggered 600mm.

Fasten to Furring Channels with 45mm Type S or Type D Bugle Head Gypsum Screws, staggered from screws in base layer, 10-15mm from vertical edges and at 300mm maximum centres throughout. Caulk perimeter with Cornice Adhesive or flexible fire resistant sealant as detailed.
Accessory Application
Plasterboard Joints
Finish all face layer joints and internal angles with a Boral Plasterboard joint system comprising perforated paper tape and jointing compound. Stop exposed fasteners on face layers and finish External Corner Beads and Stopping Angles as required, with at least two coats of joint compound feathered out from nose of bead to plasterboard face and sanded smooth.
External Corner Bead
Reinforce all vertical and horizontal external corners with External Corner Bead fixed in a bed of Cornice Adhesive to both flanges for entire length of bead.
Stopping Angles
Where Shaft Wall terminates at control joint or against masonry, concrete or other dissimilar material, finish with Stopping Angle over face layer edge, fixed in a bed of Cornice Adhesive to both flanges for entire length of bead.
Screws
Power drive screws between 10mm and 15mm from edges and ends of plasterboard sheets. Screw heads are driven just below the plasterboard surface without damaging face of linerboard.

Note: Boral Plasterboard Cavity Shaft Walls have been fire tested in approved systems with a number of proprietary Lift Landing Doors, Pedestrian Doors and Dampers. When considering the use of any of these products, please refer to the product manufacturer's specifications for details of tested designs.
