Peninsula Link Freeway Project - Langwarrin, Victoria
Temporary asphalt plant, McClelland Drive, Langwarrin
Boral Asphalt (Victoria) is the contracted road surfacing supplier for the new Peninsula Link Freeway, being built in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs.
To facilitate this role, Boral was granted approval by the Victorian Government during August 2011 to use quarry land on McClelland Drive, Langwarrin for the construction and operation of a temporary asphalt plant.
The plant will supply road surfacing services to the 27km Peninsula Link and will be removed upon completion of the project.
As Peninsula Link is scheduled for completion in early 2013. Operation of the temporary temporary asphalt plant began in late December 2011.
The location of the plant is only 450 metres from the main road works alignment and was selected to minimise truck movements on local roads, as well as to ensure the asphalt is laid at a high temperature, essential for durability.
As with all asphalt plants, the plant is regulated to ensure that risks to environment and health are minimal. Ongoing testing and monitoring, and strict reporting to Government authorities, is an essential part of operating the site.
