Boral Lysterfield Quarry
Introduction
Boral's Lysterfield Quarry is located in Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs near the foot of Mount Dandenong.
Access to the quarry is off Wellington Road between Rowville and Lysterfield. The site is sometimes referred to as the Dandenong Quarry.
Extractive activities have occurred in the precinct since the 1920s, with three separate pits under different ownership at one stage. Boral acquired all local operations by 1966.
The Lysterfield Quarry is one of Melbourne's main sources of hard rock material, used to make basic building and construction materials like concrete and asphalt.
The quarry's proximity to the Melbourne CBD and greater metropolitan area makes it a very important asset in the growth and development of the city.
