The changes in our lifestyle and living habits over the past decade have meant that today, more than ever, noise is intruding into our daily lives. Houses are built closer together and attached dwellings and two-storey homes are more common.

More people live in the inner city areas and there has been an explosion in home cinema and digital home entertainment.

At the same time, people are increasingly looking to their homes as a refuge from the pressures of everyday life and as a place for relaxation. More people are working from home and don’t want to be disturbed by outside noise or the activities of other family members.

For these reasons, using Boral Quiet Living™ is so important when designing and building a modern home. Boral Quiet Living™ systems work by reducing airborne and/or structure-borne sound passing through the wall or ceiling, isolating unwanted noise from selected areas of the home.

Boral Quiet Living™ systems are built using a combination of high density SoundSTOP® plasterboard, insulation in the cavity, and ensuring all gaps where noise can pass through are adequately sealed (with a flexible sealant around wall perimeters and door seals on doors). Resilient isolation mounts are used on ceilings to soften footfall.

Boral Quiet Living™ systems are recommended for any wall or floor/ceiling separating a ‘noisy’ area (kitchen, dining, or kids’ bedroom) from a ‘quiet’ area (main bedroom or home office). Two-storey homes with tiled or bare timber floors will benefit from the Quiet Living™ ceiling system that reduces the noise of footsteps from the room above permeating into the room below.
